Why I'm natural

Of course, you know I have natural hair, so I wanted to share (once again) why I decided to wear my hair this way.

The main reason I stopped relaxing is the history behind black women straightening their hair in the first place- to be more appealing (physically) to white folk and so white people would accept them. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that's why people continue to do it, I'm just saying that knowing the history is one reason I wanted to stop. It's kind of like reclaiming who I am and who my people are.

Also, I'd noticed that relaxers were making my hair thin. And I hate thin hair. I also got tired of spending my Saturdays in the salon, sitting under the dryer for an hour and then not wanting to rid with the windows down, not wanting to get my hair wet in the rain and spending a looong time trying to get my hair to 'lay right' in the morning only to end up frustrated. Of course, natural hair has its struggles, too, but I spend a lot less time on my hair, and I like it a lot more.

And when I decided I was going to be au naturale, I was at a point where I wanted to be who I was/am and not who others thought I should be. I wanted to embrace myself fully, and I felt I couldn't do that with a relaxer.

I've been relaxer-free for three years and completely natural for two years. So...I'm happy to be nappy! lol

More color!

Happy Sunday, peeps!

So, right after Christmas, I tried coloring my tips Honey Blonde (well, I didn't do it myself; my boyfriend's mom did it). It did not take. At. All. See?

Well, my tips were like dark brown, but you could only see it in sunlight or with the flash of a camera (like above).

This past week I tried more color. This time it was like a red color. The results:

With flash

Without

With

I'm thinking about having another go at it in a few weeks because I really want some color- that you can actually see lol. Thoughts anyone?

Later, chicas!
